Deeply Unimportant host Dallas Kachan was a guest of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC)’s Jason D’Souza on his radio show All Points West January 20th, 2026 about the impact of Deeply Unimportant’s adult sleep stories and sleep meditations.
Kachan spoke of taking the role sincerely.
Putting people to sleep is a huge responsibility. If I’m the last thing in your ears as you go to bed at night, I take that really seriously. It’s a very intimate sort of connection with a person. I’m choosing the material very carefully and very intentionally. The last thing I want to be doing is engaging your brain. My role, I think, is just to deliver to you a reassuring cadence, and predictability and something to latch onto.
“Your voice is outstanding. I’m sure you hear that all the time,” said D’Souza, who noted for listeners Deeply Unimportant is not designed to entertain, “but quite frankly, to do the opposite.” Asked about the expectation that, today, everyone with a microphone or camera is doing their best to engage their audience, Kachan had the following to say:
In a media world when everyone is vying for your attention with increasing levels of frenzy and over-the-top intensity, this the other side of the spectrum. Particularly for those who suffer from insomnia or racing minds, this is potentially the antidote to TikTok or Instagram as you try to fall asleep. These are difficult times, right? I think a lot of us at some level crave a way to slow down, perhaps a sense from someone who sounds reassuring and trustworthy that everything’s going to be alright.
